What Shopify is
Shopify launched in 2006 as an e-commerce platform for small businesses. Today it's the default commerce layer for makers, brands, and direct-to-consumer operators worldwide. Pricing starts around $29/mo and climbs with features. The app ecosystem is huge, the templates are excellent, and the operational backbone (inventory, shipping, taxes, payouts) is genuinely good.
Shopify is good at: commerce. Selling products. Managing inventory. Handling shipping and taxes. Running a real store at real scale. The Shopify admin is mature, the developer ecosystem is large, and integrations with payment, fulfillment, and marketing tools are deep.
Shopify is not good at: being the brand surface. Most Shopify stores look like Shopify stores. The blog is weak. GBP management isn't part of it. Local SEO is template-driven. AI visibility is unaddressed. Shopify is built to sell; it's not built to be cited.
